ABOUT US

Phillip Mutual Berhad (PMB) was incorporated in Malaysia on 31 January 2002 under the Companies Act 1965 with paid up capital of RM7,000,000. The shareholders of PMB are Phillip Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd (PCH) (70%) and Ehsan Astaka Sdn Bhd (30%). As at 31 May 2005, the shareholders’ funds of PCH amounted to RM13,327,408.50. PCH is in the financial services industry and has 7 subsidiaries, which are involved in various businesses such as fund management, information technology, money lending and properties. As at 31 May 2005 PMB has three (3) Unit Trust Funds under its management.

PMB's sole activity is the management of unit trust funds. Our vision is to become a centre of investment excellence in Malaysia through the following approaches:

  1. Product Leadership - PMB shall offer innovative investment products for customers;

  2. Operational Excellence - PMB shall aim to produce consistent and superior investment returns while offering efficient and effective operations; and

  3. Customer Intimacy - PMB shall strive to provide value added customer services at all times.

PMB has a staff strength of 11 as at 31 May 2005, comprising 10 executives and 1 non-executives. Our staff has extensive experience in the unit trust industry within their respective areas of specialisation. They will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the funds, reporting to the Board of Directors, Investment Committee, Trustee and the Securities Commission.

PMB is essentially part of the PhillipCapital Group of companies, a financial conglomerate with interests in stockbroking, futures broking, fund management and information technology. The group was established in 1975 and has a presence in 10 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Australia, United Kingdom and Japan employing more than 2000 people worldwide as at 31 May 2005. TAN SRI DATO’ IR. TALHA BIN HAJI MOHAMAD HASHIM (Independent Director)

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Talha bin Haji Mohamad Hashim is currently the Chairman of Gamuda Berhad. He is also a Board Member of Sapura Telecommunications Bhd, SHL Consolidated Bhd, Hume Industries (Malaysia) Bhd, Sunway City Bhd and holds the position of Chairman or Director of few private companies. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Brighton Technical College, UK (1959) and a Master in Management Degree from the Asia Institute of Management, Manila (1976).

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Talha began his career with the Public Works Department in 1959 and held various posts before rising to the rank of Director General in 1985 and retired in 1990. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Registered Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council of the UK, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Fellow of the Institution Civil Engineers (UK), Fellow of the Institution Highways and Transportation (UK) and a Member of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia.

He was formerly the President of the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Board member of several Government and quasi-Government agencies. Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Talha has also served as the President of Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australia and as a Board Member of the International Road Federation. Tan Sri Dato' Ir. Talha was appointed as Independent on 12 May 2003.

TAN SRI DATO' IR. JAMILUS BIN MD HUSSIN (Independent Director)

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir Jamilus bin Hussin is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of KLIA Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd. He is also the President of the Project Management Institution Malaysia and holds several fellow memberships with Engineering associations in Malaysia. Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Jamilus was known for spearheading KLIA Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd in the development and successful completion of the KL International Airport (KLIA) construction within the time frame of six (6) years.

Prior to the KLIA project, Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Jamilus held numerous key positions in the Government particularly the Public Work Department (PWD). Among the post were the PWD State Director of Pahang, Terengganu and Perak. His vast experience includes the formation of policies, organisational development and implementation, project and construction management and facility management of Government properties.

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Jamilus also has a keen interest to propagate the professional practice of project management in the industry. He is active in the lecturing circuit by giving lectures and seminars in major local and international conferences. Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Jamilus was appointed as Independent Director on 22 November 2004.

PN. NONA BINTI SALLEH (Non-Independent Director)

Pn. Nona Salleh is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd, a fund management company licensed by the Securities Commission under the Securities Industry Act 1983. She was officially appointed as Director of Phillip Mutual Berhad on December 1, 2002. She started her investment career in Aseambankers in 1992 where she gained exposure to the management of Syariah-based and semi-Syariah based portfolio under its management.

Over the 13 years, she has accumulated experience through her involvement in the investment management and strategy of her clients’ equity portfolios and unit trusts, namely the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Lembaga Tabung Haji, Koperasi Jaya Diri, Double Growth Fund and Emerging Growth Fund (BHLB Unit Trusts) as well as Mayban Dana Yakin (Maybank Syariah-based unit trust). Prior to re-joining the PhillipCapital Group in 2001 to head its Malaysian operation, Pn. Nona has held several key positions in investment management and research, including the positions of Associate Investment Director of BHLB Asset Management, a subsidiary of Ban Hin Lee Bank (now merged with Southern Bank) and Chief Investment Officer at Mayban Investment Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malayan Banking Berhad.

MR. SIM KHEE LAU (Non-Independent Director), CFP
Bachelor of Business Administration (Honors), University of Singapore

Mr. Sim Khee Lau is Head of the Managed Accounts Department at Phillip Securities Pte Ltd, a member of PhillipCapital, Singapore. He oversees the discretionary fund management services for corporate and individual clients.

Mr Sim graduated with an Honors degree in Business Administation from University of Singapore in 1973 and holds a Certified Financial Planner certification.

He was previously a Senior Vice President with United Overseas Bank in Singapore for 18 years; the last 15 years of which he was head of the Investment Management Division and secretary of the Investment Committee. During his employment with the Bank, he was also a board member of several Group's companies. Prior to joining the Bank, he also spent some years working with Singapore Airlines and Inchape Berhad. Mr. Sim Khee Lau was appointed as a non-Independent Director on 8 March 2004.

MR. LEE CHAY KIONG (Non-Independent Director), CFA

Mr. Lee Chay Kiong is the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Phillip Capital Management (S) Ltd. Prior to his current role, Mr. Lee was a Director of Investment at AIB Govett (Asia) Ltd and held senior investment manager positions at DBS Bank and Mitsubishi Corporation Group. Additionally, he has previously served on the Board of Directors of a number of companies within the DBS Bank and PhillipCapital, as well as several venture capital investment companies. Mr. Lee's fund management experience spans several investment cycles. His tracks record includes a number of highly rated unit trusts in the Asia Pacific and Global Funds category.

 

A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) since 1990, he obtained his Bachelor's (Honours) degree in Chemical Engineering in 1985 in a Public Service Commission Merit Scholarship. Mr. Lee Chay Kiong was appointed as a Non-Independent Director on 8 2004. Top>>

MR. LIM HUA MIN (Non-Independent Member; Chairman of the PhillipCapital Group)

Mr. Lim Hua Min, the Chairman of PhillipCapital Group, co-founded Phillip Securities (Singapore) Pte Ltd in 1975. He was the Chairman of Allied Phillip Capital management Ltd and the Director of AIB Asset Management Holdings Ltd (formerly John Govett Holdings Ltd) and AIB Govett (Asia) Ltd (formerly John Govett Asia Pte Ltd. He served on a number of committees and sub-committees of the Stock Exchange of Singapore and Monetary Authority of Singapore. In 1997, he was appointed Chairman of the Stock Exchange of Singapore Review Committee, which he was responsible for devising the conceptual framework to develop Singapore’s capital markets. Mr. Lim was officially appointed as an Investment Committee Member of Phillip Mutual Berhad on December 1, 2002.

THE INVESTMENT ADVISOR
The investment advisors, Phillip Capital Management (S) LTD ("PCM(S)") is the subsidiary at Phillip group. will have a close relationship with PMB and its Investment Committee in setting investment policies, ensuring implementation of policies, monitoring performance, and compliance. Besides that, the advisors will assist PMB in formulating fresh investment strategies, providing the forecast of global markets and initiating research on investments. The remuneration of the investment advisors are borne by the Manager.

PHILLIP CAPITAL MANAGEMENT (S) LTD [PCM (S)]

Phillip Capital Management (S) Ltd, incorporated in Singapore in 1999, holds an Investment Advisor’s License from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). PCM (S) offers discretionary investment management and advisory services to unit trusts, institutional, corporate and individual clients.

The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Phillip Capital Pte Ltd which is also the holding company of Phillip Securities Pte Ltd. The investment philosophy of PCM (S) is to generate consistent investment returns through optimum asset allocation and stock selection. As at 30 April 2005, it has a total staff strength of 12, comprising 4 fund managers, 1 marketing personnel and 7 support staff. The total funds managed by PCM (S) as at 30 April 2005 was S$505 million.

TAN SRI DATO’ DR. ABU BAKAR BIN SULEIMAN

Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Suleiman is currently the President of International Medical University (IMU). He is also the President of Malaysian Health Informatics Association, President of National Kidney Foundation, Chairman of Medical Sciences Division, Chairman of Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Chairman of National Productivity Corporation, Consultative Panel on Healthcare, Chairman of Ministry of Health Committee on Living Unrelated Donor Transplantation, a member of National Health Welfare Fund, a member of Malaysia-Indonesia Business Council and Subcommittee on Human Resource, Education and Healthcare.

Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Monash University, Australia in 1968 and subsequently obtained a Master of Medicine from University of Singapore in 1974. He is a member of Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and an honorary fellow of the American College of Physicians.

He started his career as a medical officer with the Ministry of Health in 1969 and forthwith completed training in Internal Medicine before he became a Consultant Physician with the Department of Nephrology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In 1975, he was the visiting fellow to the Division of Nephrology of Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC as well as Prince Henry’s Hospital of Melbourne, Australia. In 1976, he returned to Kuala Lumpur and was appointment as the Consultant Nephrologist and Head of Department of Nephrology of Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In 1987, he held the position of Director of Medical Services of Ministry of Health and became Deputy Director General of Health in 1989 before rising to the rank of Director General of Health of the Ministry in 1991 to 2001. He attended the advanced management at Harvard Business School in 1991.

Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar was recently appointed as the President of Malaysian Society of Nephrology, President of Malaysian Medical Association, a member of Board of Directors of University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Master of Academy of Medicine, Malaysia and President of Malaysian Society of Transplantation.

PROFESSOR DATO’ DR. KHOO KAY KIM

Professor Dato’ Dr. Khoo Kay Kim is a distinguished historian who has devoted his career to Malaysian history. Professor Dato' Dr. Khoo began his academic career with the Department of History, University of Malaya in 1964 until his retirement in 1998. He was appointed external examiner for National University of Singapore and University of Brunei in 1990. In 1995, Professor Dato' Dr. Khoo was admitted as a Member Review Committee for University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Professor Dato' Dr. Khoo is a member of the Board of Directors of Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), a member of National Unity Advisory Panel, a member of Malaysia Royal Asiatic Society’s International Advisory Board and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of American Asian Review. Professor Dato' Dr. Khoo had also served as a member of National Advisory Council on Culture, Editor of Malaysian Museum Society and a member of National Literary Award Panel.

He is also active in Malaysian sports serving as a member of Technical and Development Committee of Football Association of Malaya (FAM) and a Central Committee member of Malaysian Amateur Athletic Association (MMAU).

Professor Dato' Dr. Khoo has written numerous books and monographs published by Oxford University Press, Pelanduk Publications, Berita Publishing and ASEAN Academic Press, London.

DATO’ HAJI ABU MANSOR BIN ALI

Dato’ Haji Abu Mansor bin Ali was a Federal Court Judge from May 1999 to January 2001. He graduated as a Barrister-at-Law at Lincoln Inn, England in 1963. He started his legal career as a Cadet Magistrate and became a Circuit Magistrate in the Judicial Legal Service in numerous sates from 1964 to 1968. He was subsequently appointed as the President of the Sessions Court in 1968. Dato’ Haji Abu Mansor later served the public legal services as the Deputy Public Prosecutor in Penang, the State Legal Advisor for the states of Selangor, Penang and Terengganu and the Head of Advisory Division and Civil Division of the Attorney General’s Chamber. In 1984, he was promoted as a High Court Judge (Borneo and Malaya) and subsequently, as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 1994. In May 1999, he was elevated to the Federal Court. Dato’ Haji Abu Mansor is also registered on the Panel of Arbitrators for domestic and international cases and a Commissioner for Oath.

ENCIK MOHD FADZLI BIN MOHD ANAS, Chief Executive Officer

Encik Mohd Fadzli Bin Mohd Anas was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Phillip Mutual Bhd on 2nd February 2005. Prior to this, he was the Vice President, Investment of Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd where he was responsible for investment and marketing for the company. Encik Mohd Fadzli has been with the PhillipCapital Group for the past 6 years and has been instrumental in charting the growth of its Malaysian operation.

Encik Mohd Fadzli has worked in various senior capacities in the financial industry for the past 11 years. He has also been actively involved in the business development operations of a listed telecommunications company, where he served as President of its Group Marketing Council which was responsible for advising the company's Management Committee on strategic issues. Encik Mohd Fadzli graduated with a BSc (Mathematics) from Clarkson University in New York, and holds an MBA (Finance) from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

Pn. Wan Juliana is a graduate of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She obtained her first degree in 2002 in Economics. Prior to joining Phillip Mutual Bhd on 1 March 2007, she was a Compliance Officer for several unit trust companies for 4 years. She was responsible for preparing of legal documents for retail and corporate clients, sourcing for new businesses and monitoring the firm’s daily operations to ensure compliance.

MS. TANG KHENG KHENG, Senior Manager, Finance & Operations

Ms. Tang Kheng Kheng is a graduate from Universiti Utara Malaysia. She obtained her first degree in 1994 in Business Administration. Prior to joining Phillip Mutual Bhd on July 8, 2002, she was the Finance and Operations Manager at Apex Unit Trusts Berhad (previously Jardine Fleming Apex Unit Trusts) where she was responsible for finance, fund accounting, operations, agency support and trade support. Ms. Tang was initially exposed into the unit trust industry at BHLB Pacific Trust Management Bhd as a Finance Executive from 1994 to 1997.

PN. ISNALIYAH SARWADI, Manager, Marketing & Business Development

Pn. Isnaliyah joined Phillip Mutual Berhad as Manager, Marketing and Business Development. Her main responsibilities are to make sure the smooth running of PMB as a platform provider ie; tying up with the majority of the Unit Trust Management Company (UTMC) under the Institutional Unit Trust Adviser (IUTA) arrangement. She is also responsible to expand the Company's B2B tie-ups plan. Before joining PMB in October 2007, she was with a local unit trust company in charged of Corporate and Institutional clients. Her 8 years experience in the Financial Industry also includes analyst job and securing new business for a bank backed broker. Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd (“PCM”)

PCM was incorporated on 13 February 1995 and commenced operations with a paid up capital of RM2 million. PCM is a licensed Fund Manager under the Securities Commission Industry Act, 1983, and is part of the PhillipCapital Group of companies, a financial services conglomerate that offers a full range of financial services and products. The fund management service of the Phillip Capital Group is available globally through several subsidiaries, namely Phillip Capital Management Pte Ltd (Singapore), Walker, Crips, Weddle, Beck Plc (United Kingdom), Sovereign Asset Management Limited (Australia), Phillip Securities (Hong Kong) and Phillip Securities (Singapore).

PCM offers investment management expertise to institutions, corporations and high net-worth individuals and EPF contributors under the EPF Investment of Members Savings Scheme.
