PHILLIP MUTUAL BERHAD

 

Philip Mutual Berhad (PMB) was incorporated in Malaysia on 31 January 2002 under the Companies Act 1965 with paid up capital of RM10, 580,000. The shareholders of PMB are Phillip Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd (PCH) (70%) and Ehsan Astaka Sdn Bhd (30%). As at 30 April 2009, the shareholders' funds of PMB amounted to RM5,022,623.41.

 

We have staff strength of sixteen (16) as at 30 April 2009, comprising fourteen (14) executives and two (2) non-executives. Our staff has extensive experience in the unit trust industry within their respective areas of specialisation. They will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the funds, reporting to the Board of Directors, Investment Commitee, Trustee and the SC.

 

PMB is essentially part of the Phillip Group of companies, a financial conglomerate with interests in stockbroking, futures broking, fund management and information technology. The group was established in 1975 and has a presence in 10 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Australia, United Kingdom and Japan employing more than 2,800 people worldwide as at 30 April 2009. The group's more than 33 years experience in equities, futures and fund management will be harnessed to produce results consistent with each of the Funds' objectives.

 

As at 30 April 2009, PMB has three (3) funds totaling RM137,005,124.

EN. MOHD FADZLI BIN MOHD ANAS, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
B.Sc. (Mathematics) from Clarkson University, MBA (Finance) from the University of Leeds

En. Mohd Fadzli Bin Mohd Anas was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Phillip Mutual Bhd on 2 February 2005. Prior to this, he was the Vice President, Investment of Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd where he was responsible for investment and marketing for the company. En. Mohd Fadzli has been with the PhillipCapital Group for the past 9 years and has been instrumental in charting the growth of its Malaysian operation.

 
En. Mohd Fadzli has worked in various senior capacities in the financial industry for the past 14 years. He has also been actively involved in the business development operations of a listed telecommunications company, where he served as President of its Group Marketing Council which was responsible for advising the company's Management Committee on strategic issues. En. Mohd Fadzli graduated with a BSc (Mathematics) from Clarkson University in New York, and holds an MBA (Finance) from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

MR. RAYMOND FRANCIS WONG, MANAGER, MARKETING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Mr. Raymond Francis Wong joined Phillip Mutual Berhad as Manager, Marketing and Business Development on March 2008. Prior to joining PMB, he was involved in the Malaysian equity market as an Investment Analyst. In addition, he also possesses working knowledge of the Unit Trust and Insurance industry, having served the sectors with established corporations for a number of years. Raymond holds a BSc. in Business Administration majoring in Finance from the University of Nebraska, USA.

Tan Sri Dato Ir. Talha bin Haji Mohamad Hashim is currently the Chairman of Gamuda Berhad. He is also a Board Member of Sapura Telecommunications Bhd, SHL Consolidated Bhd, Hume Industries (Malaysia) Bhd, Sunway City Bhd and holds the position of Chairman or Director of few private companies. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Brighton Technical College, UK (1959) and a Master in Management Degree from the Asia Institute of Management, Manila (1976).
 
Tan Sri Dato Ir. Talha began his career with the Public Works Department in 1959 and held various posts before rising to the rank of Director General in 1985 and retired in 1990. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Registered Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council of the UK, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Fellow of the Institution Civil Engineers (UK), Fellow of the Institution Highways and Transportation (UK) and a Member of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia.
 
He was formerly the President of the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Board member of several Government and quasi-Government agencies. Tan Sri Dato Ir. Talha has also served as the President of Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australia and as a Board Member of the International Road Federation. Tan Sri Dato' Ir. Tan Sri Dato Ir Jamilus bin Hussin is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of KLIA Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd. He is also the President of the Project Management Institution Malaysia and holds several fellow memberships with Engineering associations in Malaysia. Tan Sri Dato Ir. Jamilus was known for spearheading KLIA Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd in the development and successful completion of the KL International Airport (KLIA) construction within the time frame of six (6) years.
 
Prior to the KLIA project, Tan Sri Dato Ir. Jamilus held numerous key positions in the Government particularly the Public Work Department (PWD). Among the post were the PWD State Director of Pahang, Terengganu and Perak. His vast experience includes the formation of policies, organisational development and implementation, project and construction management and facility management of Government properties.
 
Tan Sri Dato Ir. Jamilus also has a keen interest to propagate the professional practice of project management in the industry. He is active in the lecturing circuit by giving lectures and seminars in major local and international conferences. Tan Sri Dato Ir. Jamilus was appointed as Independent Director on 22 November 2004.

Datin Hajjah Nona Binti Salleh is the Chairperson of Phillip Capital Management Sdn Bhd, a fund management company licensed by the SC under the Act. She was officially appointed as Director of Phillip Mutual Berhad on 1 December 2002. She started her investment career in Aseambankers in 1992 where she gained exposure to the management of Syariah-based and semi-Syariah based portfolios under its management.
 
Over 17 years, she has accumulated experience through her involvement in the investment management and strategy of her clients' equity portfolios and unit trusts, namely the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Lembaga Tabung Haji, Koperasi Jaya Diri, Double Growth Fund and Emerging Growth Fund (BHLB Unit Trusts) as well as Mayban Dana Yakin (Maybank Syariah-based unit trust). Prior to re-joining the Phillip Group in 2001 to head its Malaysian operation, Datin Hajjah Nona has held several key positions in investment management and research, including the positions of Associate Investment Director of BHLB Asset Management, a subsidiary of Ban Hin Lee Bank (now merged with Southern Bank) and Chief Investment Officer at Mayban Investment Management Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malayan Banking Berhad. Datin Hajjah Nona holds a Capital Markets Services Representative License (CMSRL/A3012/2007) and is the Executive Chairperson of Phillip Capital Malaysia.

Mr. Andy is currently the Managing Director of PhillipCapital Group Malaysia. He started his career as a Dealer in the international commodities market before joining PhillipCapital?s Malaysian derivatives operation as a Futures Dealer in 1998. He specialised in the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index Futures. He was transferred to the fund management arm of the Group in 1999 to grow the high-net-worth clients operations.
 
Over the past 11 years, Andy climbed up the ranks through various division within the Group including sales, marketing, financial planning, research and fund management.
 
 
MR. SIM KHEE LAU (Non-Independent Director), CFP

Mr. Sim Khee Lau is Head of the Managed Accounts Division at Phillip Securities Pte Ltd, a member of PhillipCapital, Singapore. He oversees the discretionary fund management services for corporate and individual clients. Mr Sim graduated with an Honours degree in Business Administation from the University of Singapore in 1973 and holds a Certified Financial Planner certification.
 
He was previously a Senior Vice President with United Overseas Bank in Singapore for 19 years; the last 16 years of which he was head of the Investment Management Division and secretary of the Investment Committee. During his employment with the Bank, he was also a board member of several of the Group's companies. Prior to joining the Bank, he also spent some years working with Singapore Airlines and Inchape Berhad. Mr. Sim Khee Lau was appointed as a Non-Independent Director on 8 March 2004.
 
 
MR. JEFFREY LEE CHAY KHIONG (Non-Independent Director), CFA

Mr. Jeffrey Lee is the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Phillip Capital Management (S) Ltd. Prior to his current role, Mr. Lee was a Director of Investment at AIB Govett (Asia) Ltd and held senior investment manager positions at DBS Bank and Mitsubishi Corporation Group. Additionally, he has previously served on the Board of Directors of a number of companies within the DBS Bank and PhillipCapital, as well as several venture capital investment companies. Mr. Jeffrey Lee's fund management experience spans several investment cycles. His track record includes a number of highly rated unit trusts in the Asia Pacific and Global Funds category.
 
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) since 1990, he obtained his Bachelor's (Honours) degree in Chemical Engineering in 1985 on a Public Service Commission Merit Scholarship. Mr. Jeffrey Lee was appointed as the Non-Independent Director on 8 March 2004.

Mr. Lim Hua Min is the Executive Chairman of PhillipCapital Group of Companies and was also appointed Chairman of International Factors (Singapore) Ltd on 20 May 2003. He began his career holding senior positions in the Stock Exchange of Singapore and the Securities Research Institute. He has served on a number of committees and sub-committees of the Stock Exchange of Singapore. In 1997, he was appointed Chairman of the Stock Exchange of Singapore (SES) Review Committee, which is responsible for devising a conceptual framework to make Singapore's capital markets more globalised, competitive and robust. For this service, he was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1999 by the Singapore Government. Currently he serves as a board member in the Inland Revenue Authority Singapore. Mr Lim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey and obtained a Master's Degree in Operations Research and Management Studies from Imperial College, London University. Mr Lim Hua Min was officially appointed as an Investment Committee member on 1 December 2002.

Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Suleiman is currently the President of International Medical University (IMU). He is also the President of Malaysian Health Informatics Association, President of National Kidney Foundation, Chairman of Medical Sciences Division, Chairman of Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Chairman of National Productivity Corporation, Consultative Panel on Healthcare, Chairman of Ministry of Health Committee on Living Unrelated Donor Transplantation, a member of National Health Welfare Fund, a member of Malaysia-Indonesia Business Council and Subcommittee on Human Resource, Education and Healthcare.
 
Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Abu Bakar completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Monash University, Australia in 1968 and subsequently obtained a Master of Medicine from University of Singapore in 1974. He is a member of Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and an honorary fellow of the American College of Physicians.
 
He started his career as a medical officer with the Ministry of Health in 1969 and forthwith completed training in Internal Medicine before he became a Consultant Physician with the Department of Nephrology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In 1975, he was the visiting fellow to the Division of Nephrology of Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC as well as Prince Henry's Hospital of Melbourne, Australia. In 1976, he returned to Kuala Lumpur and was appointment as the Consultant Nephrologist and Head of Department of Nephrology of Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In 1987, he held the position of Director of Medical Services of Ministry of Health and became Deputy Director General of Health in 1989 before rising to the rank of Director General of Health of the Ministry in 1991 to 2001. He attended the advanced management at Harvard Business School in 1991.
 
Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Abu Bakar was also appointed as the President of Malaysian Society of Nephrology, President of Malaysian Medical Association, a member of Board of Directors of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Master of Academy of Medicine, Malaysia and President of Malaysian Society of Transplantation. Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Khoo Kay Kim is a distinguished historian who has devoted his career to Malaysian history. Professor Khoo began his academic career as a Graduate Teacher in Teluk Anson and later became a tutor, lecturer, head and dean at Department of History, University of Malaya in 1964 until his retirement in 1998. He was appointed External Assessor for National University of Singapore, Universiti Sains Malaysia and University of Brunei in 1990. In 1995, Professor Khoo was admitted as a Member Review Committee for University of Auckland, New Zealand. He was also a Research Fellow at the Institute of Defence & Strategic Studies, Nanyang Technological University. At various times, he serves as President or Editor of the Royal Asiatic Society Malaysian Branch, a member of Editorial Advisory Board of The American Asian Review and Editor of the Malaysian Historical Society and Malaysian Museum.
 
Professor Khoo currently is a member of the Board of Directors of Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia (ISIS), a member of the Board of Directors of Integrity Institute of Malaysia, a member of the Board of Directors of Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka, a Senior Fellow of Social Institute of Malaysia, a member of Human Rights Commissioner, a member of National Advisory Committee on National Unity.
 
Professor Khoo has written numerous books and monographs published by Oxford University Press, Pelanduk Publications and Putri Publication. He also writes about 100 articles in learned journals mainly on Malaysian History. Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Khoo Kay Kim was appointed as Panel Adviser on 30 April 2003.

FUNCTION OF THE INVESTMENT MANAGER

The Investment Manager is a licensed fund manager and responsible for managing the investment and dealing of the Funds so as to meet the investment objectives of the Funds. The Investment Manager shall have discretionary authority over the investment of the Funds under their management subject to the Guidelines on Unit Trust Funds and other relevant applicable regulations. The Fund Managers will meet and report to the Investment Committee of the Funds on a regular basis pertaining to the status of the Funds, proposed investment strategy and discuss matters relating to the Funds. Apart from the regular meetings, the Investment Committee will meet with the Investment Manager more frequently should the circumstances require. The remuneration of the Investment Manager is borne by the PMB.

PCM was incorporated on 13 February 1995 and commenced operations with a paid up capital of RM2 million. PCM is a licensed under the Capital Market and Services Act, 2007, and is part of the PhillipCapital Group of companies, a financial services conglomerate that offers a full range of financial services and products. The fund management service of the Phillip Capital Group is available globally through several subsidiaries, namely Phillip Capital Management Pte Ltd (Singapore), Walker, Crips, Weddle, Beck Plc (United Kingdom), Sovereign Asset Management Limited (Australia), Phillip Securities (Hong Kong) and Phillip Securities (Singapore).

Mr. Ang joined PhillipCapital Group on January 2007. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, from University of Malaya in 1980 and holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from UKM. He is also Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and Charterholder of CFA Institute. He started his career with Jurutera Konsultant (SEA) in 1980 as design engineer. He joined Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) as a Project Evaluation Officer a year later and spending 7 years there. He was responsible for advising, regulating and promoting manufacturing concerns in the country. He was also participated in the drawing up the first Industrial Master Plan.
 
He joined TA Securities Berhad in 1988 as Research Manager and responsible for the setting up of the Research Department, providing regular newsletters and write-ups for investors. He is a fund manager for several private funds as well as the designated fund manager for TA Balanced Fund, a unit trust managed by TA Unit Trust Management Berhad. Mr. Ang was appointed as Chief Investment Officer of TA Asset Management in 1995. Mr. Ang is a regular speaker in stockmarket and investment seminars. His opinion is well sought after by investors and business journalists due to his in-depth knowledge of the capital market and his many years of experience in investment research and fund management. She is also responsible to expand the Company?s B2B tie-ups plan. Before joining PMB in October 2007, she was with a local unit trust company in charged of Corporate and Institutional clients. Her 9 years experience in the financial industry also includes analyst job and securing new business for a bank backed broker. She graduated from University of Essex, Colchester, United Kingdom with B.Sc (Hons) Information Management with Accounting.
